Endings: Encounters with Extinction is a lyrical blend of literary reportage, natural history, travel, and personal reflections, offering a holistic understanding of extinction, as it occurs and reoccurs in human myth, story, and science. Anansi’s brief called for a cover design that combined a modern scientific feel with a literary sensibility while representing the idea of extinction in a more oblique way than the usual images of dinosaurs and dodo birds. The main image here is Jan Brueghel The Elder’s Earthly Paradise, which is wide enough to wrap nicely around the entire book jacket.
